Breast Screening

BreastScreen Aotearoa is New Zealand’s free national breast screening programme for women aged between 45 and 69. We will put you in touch with them once you turn 45 so that you are enrolled with the programme. Once you are enrolled BreastScreen Aotearoa will liaise with you directly to book in your mammogram.

If you have any concerns about your breasts and you would like to discuss these with your GP please book an appointment. Our Nurses will also be happy to talk to you about the screening programme and what this involves.

Cervical Screening

Cervical cancer is one of the easiest cancers to present and our nursing team is skilled in performing cervical screening. All women aged between 25 and 69 years who have ever been sexually active should have regular 3-yearly smear tests. If your test is abnormal the Nurse will let you know what the next steps are which might include a consult with the GP and/or annual cervical screening.

Menopause

Menopause can occur in women from 40 years onwards and can be an unsettling time. Our GP’s would be happy to talk through your symptoms and treatment options.

LARCS (Long-acting reversible contraceptives)

If you are looking for a long-acting contraceptive option there are several options available to you including injections, Intra uterine devices or an implant under the skin. LARCs are a great option if you want a long-term solution, you find it hard to remember to take the pill, or if you have side effects from other contraceptive methods.

If you would like a LARC please make an appointment with one of our GPs to talk about your options.  Some patients aged 14 to 44 years may also be eligible for funded services to cover the consultation and contraception fees.

Maternity Care

Our GP’s can work with you to confirm your pregnancy, follow up on test results or care, provide support if you suffer a pregnancy loss and provide advice regarding termination of pregnancy if this is an option for you.

They can also let you know of Lead Maternity Services (midwives) available in your community.
